The UGA Office of Sustainability and the Georgia Initiative for Climate & Society, with input from students, faculty, staff and community members, developed a UGA Sustainability Plan to document greenhouse gas emissions and provide a roadmap with short, medium, and long term goals and strategies to increase resiliency and significantly reduce the University’s emissions over time.
The UGA 2020 Strategic Plan was created as part of its decennial reaccreditation process. The University of Georgia embarked on a long-range planning exercise in spring 2009 to envision what it would look like in the year 2020. Planning related to sustainability is prevalent in the plan, specifically Strategic Direction VII (pages 15-16).

UGA earned a Gold STARS Rating for 2014 from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) for initiatives in education, research, operations, planning, administration & engagement.
The 2010-2014 Office of Sustainability Review Team Report assesses the performance of the student green fee and the Office of Sustainability in meeting the original intent of the Green Initiative Fund proposal and the University’s sustainability goals as contained in the 2010-2020 UGA Strategic Plan.
The 2010-2015 Office of Sustainability Strategic Plan illustrates our office’s commitment to enhance conservation of resources and long-term sustainability at the University of Georgia. Primary responsibilities of the Office include coordination, communication and advancement of sustainability initiatives at the University of Georgia.
