Compost

Compostable materials are collected in green-colored “Compost” bins.
Food scraps, paper towels, and BPI-certified service wares placed in these bins are taken to the Athens-Clarke County Commercial Compost Facility to become a valuable soil amendment used to restore soils and grow more food.

Recycling

Recycling is collected in blue-colored, single-stream “Recycle” containers across campus.
Cardboard, paper, metal, glass, and rigid plastic items placed in these containers are taken to Athens-Clarke County facilities for processing and distribution to various end markets to become valuable new products.

Why?

Composting and recycling are good for the environment and good for business in Georgia!

CHaRM x UGA

CHaRM x UGA is on the 2nd floor of the Miller Learning Center, outside Room 212, down the hall from Jittery Joe’s.

The Athens-Clarke County Center for Hard to Recycle Materials (CHaRM) is a one-stop drop for items that can’t be recycled at the curb or at the ACC recycling drop-off sites due to their chemical composition, hazardous components, size, shape, etc. These materials will be collected at the CHaRM for reuse, recycling and in rare cases, safe disposal. CHaRM is open to anyone, even if you do not reside in Athens.
