Waste Reduction Coordinator

India Barfield serves as the Waste Reduction Coordinator at the University of Georgia’s Office of Sustainability, where she partners with departments across campus to advance waste reduction initiatives and promote sustainable materials management. In this role, she leads education and outreach programs, equipping students, faculty, and staff with the knowledge and tools to put sustainable practices into action.
With a background in Studio Art and more than a decade of experience in the culinary industry—including roles as both a chef and Sustainability Coordinator with UGA Dining Services—India brings a creative, hands-on perspective to her work. Her areas of interest include sustainable food practices and social stewardship, with a strong focus on the role of community in advancing sustainability across Georgia.
Beyond campus, India extends her commitment to community-based environmental action through her volunteer work with Save Our Legacy Ourself (SOLO), a nonprofit founded by saltwater Geechee residents of coastal Georgia that preserves cultural heritage through agricultural traditions.
