Sustainabilityin the workplace

Sustainability at work is easy. Here are 10 things you can do every day to make your office more sustainable.

TURN OFF LIGHTS IN EMPTY ROOMS

The best energy saving device is the tip of your finger!

PUT YOUR COMPUTER AND MONITOR TO SLEEP.

Screensavers don’t save energy, but you will save a lot when you use your computer’s power settings to put it to sleep when you’re away from your desk.

IF YOU MUST PRINT, DO IT DOUBLE-SIDED.

Set double-sided as your default and always use recycled-content paper.

OWN YOUR TRASH AND RECYCLE RIGHT.

Know the Yup/Nope system! Ask your building supervisor for a Deskside Recycling System and empty it yourself as motivation to throw less away.

JOIN THE DEPARTMENTAL COMPOST PROGRAM

Email compost@uga.edu to get a bin for your break room.

COLLECT FILM PLASTIC AND STYROFOAM

An office champion can take items to CHaRM or a local grocery store.  Large quantity pick-ups can be scheduled through the FMD Work Request Center.

JOIN THE SURPLUS PROPERTY LISTSERV

Email property@uga.edu to join and share state property with others on campus. If you must buy new, buy durable and repairable products.

CONSERVE WATER AT THE SINK AND REPORT LEAKS ON CAMPUS.

Report leaks at workrequest.fmd.uga.edu, 706-542-7456; or contact UGA Police at 706-542-2200 for after-hour emergencies.

MAKE ONE SMALL CHANGE TO REDUCE YOUR FUEL USE.

The UGA Mobile App provides real-time bus routes, and campus is a beautiful place to walk and bike.

SHARE YOUR INSIGHTS AND IDEAS.

Email us at sustain@uga.edu. Your creative actions and ideas help grow the culture of sustainability at UGA.
