Our office is located in Room 217 in Chicopee Building 1, 1180 E. Broad Street Athens, GA 30602-5410. We are a short walk from the Multimodal Transit Center, which you can get to on the UGA Transit Family Housing bus. There is bicycle parking to the left of the main entrance to our building. If you drive, cars with any valid UGA parking permit may park in the UGA lot across the street.
To find the Office of Sustainability, enter Chicopee 1 through the main door adjacent to the crosswalk that leads from the parking lot. Go through the lobby and up the stairs that are straight ahead. Keep to the left until you see an open area with three large, wooden planters. Our office is directly past the third planter, room 217.
Director of Sustainability
Kevin is a landscape architect with more than two decades of experience in campus sustainability, planning, and ecological design. He leads a dynamic team of staff and students to address grand challenges through local solutions, developing inspired leaders, stronger communities, and thriving natural systems. Prior to becoming UGA’s first Director of Sustainability in 2010, Kevin served in the Office of University Architects with responsibility for campus planning and project management. He has Masters and Bachelor degrees in Landscape Architecture, as well as a graduate Certificate in Conservation Ecology and Sustainable Development, from the University of Georgia.
Program Coordinator: Academics, Research, and Internships
Tyra is responsible for academic and research initiatives at the Office of Sustainability. She also developed and manages the OoS Student Internship Program. Specifically, she coordinates faculty workshops, learning communities and grants, collaborates across campus on large research projects and the use of the campus as a living laboratory, and initiates interdisciplinary programs that foster cooperation among faculty, staff, students and community members. Her efforts span many sustainability topics with a focus on the 17 UN Global Goals including watershed protection and food systems. She began work at UGA in 2010. Prior to that time, she facilitated the climate and biodiversity initiatives at the University of New Hampshire office of Sustainability, managed the environmental programs for the San Juan Islands Conservation District in Washington, and worked as a Planner for Santa Barbara County in California. Tyra has a Bachelors of Science in Conservation and Resource Studies from the University of California, Berkeley and a Masters of Environmental Science and Management from the University of California at Santa Barbara.
Program Coordinator: Operational Initiatives, Climate, and Transportation
Jason is a mechanical engineer and Certified Energy Manager with expertise in facility energy and water conservation, green building, and renewable energy. For seven years prior to joining the Office of Sustainability in 2014, Jason conducted energy and water audits and research studies on campus buildings as well as for clients in the commercial, industrial, agricultural, governmental, and utility sectors. He has volunteered as a shop manager at the BikeAthens Bike Recycling Program since 2008. Jason has a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and an MSc in Advanced Environmental and Energy Studies from the University of East London.
Program Coordinator: Communications and Outreach
Andrew is responsible for communications and outreach for the office. If you would like to form promotional partnerships with the Office of Sustainability, Andrew is your contact. He holds Bachelor and Masters degrees in education, a graduate certificate in non-profit organization administration, and is very close to completing a Master’s in Fine Arts in Graphic Design and Visual Experience.
AmeriCorps Vista: Foodshed Initiative
Matt has just graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in health promotion and an emphasis in behavioral medicine from the College of Public Health. He is currently serving a year as an Americorps VISTA out of UGA’s Office of Sustainability. His primary focus will be on helping the office launch the new Foodshed UGA initiative. If you have any questions regarding this program, he would love the chance to meet/ talk about it!
