PROGRAM STRUCTURE

 

Internship Kick-off

Team-building gathering and dinner during an afternoon/evening before semester classes begin.

Intern Work Plan

To be completed by the end of the second week of classes in collaboration with supervisor.

Weekly All Intern Meetings

  • The first meeting includes introductions and program logistics.
  • Subsequent meetings include: Project updates, brainstorming, team building, professional development & training, and public speaking opportunities.
  • Come to meetings prepared with updates, questions, and input. 

Mid-Term Internship Evaluation

  • Feedback opportunity: Interns evaluate their experience and the supervisor evaluates intern performance.
  • Intern meets with internship coordinator and/or primary staff contact to discuss.

Intern Final Presentations

At Semester in Review, which takes place on Reading Day before finals, four to five interns will be selected to give oral presentations about their projects. All other interns will present a poster or other display of their project during the poster session during the event. 

Semester-End Interview

Interns will complete a survey and evaluation of the program and their internship experience. 

 

Reporting Structure

Tyra Byers is the Internship Coordinator. She is responsible for managing the overall program including intern selection, meetings and evaluations. Tyra is available to discuss any aspect of the internship program with you as needed. In addition to Tyra, each intern will report to a primary staff contact person (typically a staff member within the Office of Sustainability) who will work with you to develop your work plan and complete your specific projects and tasks. Other staff members are available for consultation.

Work Plan

An individual work plan shall be completed by each intern by the end of the second week of the semester. This document will be revised periodically so we are all on the same page regarding project goals and expectations. Tyra Byers and/or your primary staff contact will work with you to complete and review the plan as needed.

Hours

All interns are expected to work 10 hours per week, or as otherwise discussed at the time of hiring. In the event that you will be absent during regular scheduled hours, notify Tyra Byers & your primary staff contact. Please give advanced notice for planned absences. Attendance at the weekly All Intern Meeting is a required part of this internship. Please do not schedule doctor, dentist or other appointments during this time unless you are ill.

Human Resources

For paid interns only: Paid interns are required to complete an I-9 Form through Facilities Management Division Human Resources in order to receive payment. Interns will be required to provide 1) a current resume with appropriate address, 2) a passport or picture ID and Social Security Card, and 3) a UGA ID number.

Interns are paid bi-weekly as hourly employees. All paid interns will have to sign off on timesheets in the UGA Kronos System

Office of Sustainability Support & Community Service

All interns are asked to assist with at least one Office of Sustainability event during the semester.  Opportunities will be announced at the All Intern Meetings. In addition we will announce opportunities to work with your fellow interns on community service projects throughout the semester. We encourage you to participate in as many of these as you are able.
