UGA faculty are welcome to apply to become an Affiliate Member of the Sustainability Certificate Program at anytime. The Sustainable Certificate is an interdisciplinary academic initiative supported by more than 15 units across campus. Because of the unique history and interdisciplinary nature of the certificate, we rely on affiliate faculty to meet our students’ curricular needs, which include one anchor course in sustainability, one course from each of the three “spheres” (ecological, economic, and social), two semesters of the Sustainability Seminar, and the Sustainability Capstone course for a total of 17 credit hours. We currently have approximately 200 students actively pursuing the Certificate in Sustainability, with more than 300 program alumni.
Affiliate Faculty play a key role in educating students and supporting the Sustainability Certificate Program through:
- teaching courses that fulfill certificate requirements,
- serving as subject matter experts to our capstone project teams,
- representing their academic units on the Sustainability Certificate Advisory Board, or
- directing sustainability-focused study abroad programs.
- Affiliates also receive related communication, an invitation to our annual sustainability summit, and other opportunities for engagement, networking, and curricular development.
If a course you teach is not currently listed as eligible for the Certificate requirements, but you believe it may qualify, please send a brief description of the course, including its place in the Certificate requirements, as well as a current syllabus to scdirector@uga.edu.
